Turning Waste into Hope: Genashtim Backs Soap Recycling Initiative to Protect Refugee Lives

Every day, 2,195 children die from preventable diarrheal diseases due to unsanitary living conditions. Many of these children are from refugee communities that lack basic hygiene essentials like soap. Meanwhile, 250 million bars of unused soap from factories are discarded in landfills each year.
To address this issue, Earth Company partnered with Samir Lakhani, the founder of the non-profit organization Eco-Soap Bank, on a crowdfunding project. The goal was to raise USD 64,000 to purchase a soap-making machine, capable of recycling 360 tons of waste soap. Eco-Soap Bank employs economically marginalized women to recycle the unused soap, which is then distributed to 800,000 refugees across Asia and Africa.
Genashtim, committed to uplifting the marginalized including refugees, contributed ¥3 million through DG-Bridge to support the campaign. The organization also encouraged its followers on social media to participate, amplifying the impact.
The campaign was a resounding success, exceeding the USD 64,000 goal. The additional funds will be used to purchase another soap-making machine, extending the benefits to 200,000 more refugees in four camps in Africa. Genashtim is proud to be part of this life-saving initiative, working towards a world where essential resources reach those most in need.
