Genashtim Malaysia’s Memorable Get-Together Filled with Camaraderie and Invaluable Insights
29 November 2023 was a memorable day for Genashtim’s Malaysian staff who spent the day filled with camaraderie and insightful discussions. It began in the morning when everyone gathered at the PARC, a pleasant, little community hub located within the Subang Ria Recreational Park, Subang for a heart-warming get-together, where staff, both old and new, convened to catch up and get acquainted with one another. Thomas Ng, the Founder and CEO of Genashtim and his son, Timothy, were also present alongside special guest Christopher Marquis, Professor from the University of Cambridge and author of “BETTER BUSINESS: How the B Corp Movement is Remaking Capitalism”.
A hearty breakfast of Malaysian kuih and pancakes was a lovely spread for those who arrived early. Picha Eats, a Malaysian social enterprise that supports chefs from the refugee community, prepared the appetizing food for the event. As more staff trickled into the venue, they were all ushered into the function room.
The event kicked off with a short welcome address by Thomas, who took the opportunity to welcome and introduce all the new additions to the Genashtim Malaysia team. He also dedicated a moment of silence for Samantha, one of our star IVAs who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer.
Following this, Prof. Marquis took center stage and shared his insights during his keynote address. He discussed the B Corp movement and how he was inspired by its flourishing global expansion to countries like Malaysia. He elaborated on his inspiration for studying B Lab and the B Corp movement, culminating in the publication of his book on the subject.
The delightful gathering concluded with a sumptuous lunch, offering an opportunity for networking and candid group photos. Overall, it was a fantastic way to spend a Wednesday afternoon. The organizing committee extends their gratitude to Thomas, Prof. Marquis, the 32 Malaysian staff and their carers for making the event a resounding success!
